The Adoption Process

We are thrilled that you have decided to adopt your new miniature dachshund puppy from Badland’s Mini Dachshunds! We work hard to provide an environment where our miniature dachshund puppies can thrive and we are confident that you are going to love your mini dachshund as much as we do!

Here is what you can expect!

Once you have selected your puppy from the Available Puppies Page the adoption process begins with a phone call! I always like to chat with each client over the phone and answer any questions about the breed, selecting the right puppy, or the adoption process. I am happy to send additional photos and videos to make the process easier!

Once you select your puppy, a $300 fully refundable deposit is required to reserve your puppy. If for any reason you are unable to follow through with the adoption process, your deposit will be refunded back to you once the puppy is placed with a new owner. This deposit will ensure that your puppy is on hold during the adoption process. I do not accept deposits before puppies are 2 weeks of age. I will then e-mail you a buyer/seller contract that you will need to sign and e-mail back to me. This contract ensures that both the breeder and the client are protected during the adoption process.

Once you reserve your puppy, the waiting period can begin! Before you can take your puppy home, puppies will need to be fully weened from their mother’s milk and eating solid food. They will also need to be de-wormed and vaccinated with 1st round puppy vaccines. Puppies are de-wormed at 5 weeks of age, eating soft food by 5 weeks of age, fully weened and eating solid food between 7 and 8 weeks of age, vaccinated between 7 and 8 weeks of age, and available for pick up between 7 and 8 weeks of age. Each litter is different, so we ask for some flexibility as we properly ween and care for your puppy before pick up.

Most clients reserve their puppy between 2 and 4 weeks of age, and we understand how difficult this waiting period can be! To help make it easier, weekly updates are sent to each client with videos, pictures, and important weekly developments!

It’s finally time to pick up your puppy! While clients have traveled from all over the United States to pick up their puppy, it is important to note that I do not ship puppies for health and safety reasons. I usually meet clients in Santa Fe, NM or Albuquerque, NM and delivery options can be discussed for additional fees. I will contact you when puppies are 6 weeks of age to coordinate pick up. Remaining balances will need to paid at the time of pick up.

Puppies will be sent home with a 24 hour Health Guarantee, AKC registration or pedigree, proof of 1st round puppy vaccines, Blue Buffalo puppy food, and a small, clean blanket with mother’s scent.

The relationship that I develop with each client is incredibly important to me and I make sure I am available to answer questions before, during and after the adoption process.
